BB Waitangi is a hand-crafted typeface anchored in the foundations of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

BB Waitangi is a hand-crafted typeface by Broker Brothers Design Co. It is inspired by and connected to Te Whare Runanga, on the Waitangi Treaty Grounds in Tai Tokerau - Northland, NZ.

I remember when I first saw the embossed brass plaque outside Te Whare Runanga and like a bolt of lightning a lot of things came together for me in my mind… I want to help people connect with Aotearoa the place and people, standing there looking at the plaque I first saw how I could craft a typeface with a greater meaning than an alphabet of letters and numbers. I could dive beneath the surface of the letter forms, to make a strong connection between a cornerstone of New Zealand identity (Te Tiriti o Waitangi), and the place names of Aotearoa, NZ. It’s a magical space to explore, with maps being the perfect vehicle to explore with. Bringing people together, with equality and respect. Mapping to help tell stories of our collective past and help guide stories of our collective future.
