BB Map of Tutukākā Coast including the majestic Poor Knights Islands - API
When hanging on your wall, you’ll be reminded of…
The abundance of the Tutukākā Coast… The beaches, the ocean, , the islands, the plants, the birds, the fish… The Ngunguru Estuary and the winding Northland roads, the glimpses of the glittering Pacific Ocean and the endless blue, the sandy beaches and flowering kōwhai trees, the cool shade on hot summer days and the myriad shades of green, the rock lilies, the waves peeling into sandy bays and along left-hand bar breaks, the pōhutukawa trees and climbing clematis, the harbour and its rich game fishing history, fishing off the rocks, exploring the coastline in kayaks and building sand castles on the beach. Looking up the coast to Whananaki and down the coast to Pātaua and Whangārei Heads. And last but not least, those majestic silhouettes on the horizon of Tawhiti Rahi and Aorangi, the Poor Knights Islands.
Cartographer’s Notes:
This is a dream stretch of Northland coastline, where diverse landscapes and unique biodiversity are connected by a winding road and dotted with small, distinct communities. The upper estuaries reveal beautiful unfurling koru-like shapes, while the meandering rocky coastline offers countless opportunities to get lost in contemplation. I really enjoyed finding and photographing the names of Ngunguru, Tutukaka and Matapouri for their individual sense-of-place graphics… Incorporating the Poor Knights Islands to scale was a challenge, but a map of this coastline without them would be a travesty. I hope you enjoy getting lost in this map as much as I have enjoyed creating it. - API
